Stocks
Analysis.
Why stocks are moving: investor mood, fear, and the global backdrop.
Market mood.
Computed on the stocks we track: how many are in an uptrend, how many rise today.
The fear index.
- 1 week ago: 18.4 · Calm
- 1 month ago: 15.3 · Calm
VIX, Wall Street's fear gauge (the higher it is, the more worried investors are).
What is the VIX?
The VIX is Wall Street's "fear index": it measures the volatility expected on the S&P 500 over the next 30 days. Below 15, markets are calm; between 20 and 30 they are nervous; above 30 it is fear (like in 2020). The higher it goes, the more worried investors are. It is a snapshot of the mood, not a forecast, and not investment advice.

The global backdrop.
What is influencing stocks right now: dollar, rates, commodities.
A strong dollar weighs on US multinationals and emerging markets.
When yields rise, growth stocks (tech) become less attractive.
The classic safe haven: it often rises when investors are afraid.
It drives inflation, so rates, so stocks.
A strong euro cuts the profits of big European exporters.
